The maximum SMS body length for one message is 160 characters (7-bit) or 70 unicode-encoded characters (non-English characters). Please keep in mind that text message notifications will typically contain a link, that is about 20 characters long, to either a campaign, appointment, or payment.
For this reason, we recommend your message be 140 characters.
Going over the character limit in a message causes multiple SMS to send. When this happens the carrier decides the order the messages are delivered to your client's phone and can lead to confusion, or even the included link in the message breaking. For this reason SMS characters are limited to just 160 characters to keep your notification down to one text.
